Sipadan-Kapalai Dive Resort
A water village built on a sandbank in the Celebes Sea, with some of the region’s best macro diving directly off the jetty and Sipadan reachable in a 4-night stay.
Sipadan-Kapalai Dive Resort is built on stilts over a submerged sandbank rather than on any actual island. At high tide the resort appears to sit on open water; at low tide the sandbank breaks the surface. Gear up, roll in from the jetty, and the reef is directly below you.

The resort attracts macro photographers and intermediate divers who want close encounters with the small and cryptic creatures that the Kapalai reef system is known for: frogfish in multiple colour variants, flamboyant cuttlefish, pygmy seahorses, sea horses, and nudibranchs the divemasters here know by name. The three daily boat trips also cover Mabul and Sipadan, and Kapalai suits beginners wanting calm, sheltered conditions before progressing to faster sites.

Your Sipadan Permit Allocation
You can visit Sipadan Island at least once if you stay a minimum of 4 days 3 nights. However, you will need to book early. Otherwise, you may need a longer duration of stay in order to visit Sipadan Island.
Facilities

Meals are served buffet style on an open terrace with sea views on all sides. The dive centre runs three boat dives daily, plus unlimited jetty and night dives. PADI courses from Discover Scuba through to Advanced Open Water are available on-site. The resort has internet access, a sun deck, and a game room.

The four-day minimum recommended for Sipadan access is also the minimum we would suggest for Kapalai itself: the reef rewards time and repeated visits to the same spots rather than a single pass. If your priority is maximising Sipadan days, ask us — the permit window here is smaller than at some other area resorts, so the stay length matters.
